Do you have any comments on the vision and strategy for the future?

I would question WODC's continued determination to see considerable 'Development' within West Oxfordshire,in particular it's insistence on nearly all such development taking place on Green space around Witney and Carterton.I do not believe that the impact on the local environment and local infrastructure is being fully taken into account.I feel that the council would be better concentrating on improving ALL of the existing communities in West Oxon and ensuring that as much future house building is on brownfield or other such land where possible.I don't believe more large scale estates are required and as we see with the plans for the Cogges Road in Witney the cycle of 'development' we have already seen will lead to the further destruction of our precious environment. The current WODC strategy seems to lead only to a future of more and more house building and road building and the loss of more of our local habitat.Let's make what we have already the best we can.

Do you have any comments on the strategy for Carterton?

I do not believe that Carterton needs another 1000 home estate and 1500+ homes in total. There are already pressures on resources E.G,road use, council services, police, healthcare. Why are these not improved as a priority. There is so much land available within the town for the MOD and not available for other's that this needs to be revued.I feel that using green land with its' destruction of life and the loss of valuable farming land is a short sighted approach and alternatives must be explored.

The Council is proposing further growth at Carterton, either to the east or west of the town. Which of these areas do you prefer and why?

I do not agree with either of these areas being used for all of the reasons I have listed above.

Do you have any comments on the strategy for Chipping Norton?

Do you have any comments on the meeting specific housing needs strategy?

Let's look at using non green land where possible.Let's look at how the MOD uses it's land.Do so many houses have to be in either Witney or Carterton? Using your figures only approx 290 new houses have to be built each year for 15 years to meet your target in all of the towns and villages in West Oxon.Surely there is capacity to spread this out more both in location and over time.It appears that people will essentially be forced to live in either Witney or Carterton as there are no alternatives.

Do you have any comments on the use of existing buildings strategy?

Do you have any comments on the economy and town centres strategy?

At present in Carterton there are two commercial estates in the North East part of the town.I have lived in Carterton for 3 1/2 years and during that time the vast majority of the units on the sites have been vacant.I believe it should be apriority for WODC to help ensure these units are filled to create local employment in the town and try to end the huge exodus of people out of the town each day.Again before we look at expansion let's make what we have work.

Do you have any comments on the environment and sustainable development strategy?

I believe that we must protect the green space around our existing towns and villages .I believe that areas that have a high level of biodiversity should remain to a large extent separate from human contact and should not be 'opened up'.We are at a crucial stagein terms of what type of country we want to live in,unfortunately I see no change in WODC's outlook. The cost to us all of continuous 'development' and of every piece of space being opened up is why our beautiful world is disappearing.

Do you have any comments on the transport and movement strategy?

I hope that WODC will concentrate it's resources in maintainining and improving bus services for everyone, both urban and rural within West Oxon.Im also hope any plans for Park and Rides will be on existing land used for 'development' and will not see a further erosion of green space.I object strongly for plans to 'develop' Cogges road and to build a new road in NE Carterton.I would hope that all local authorities know that more road building solves nothing in the long term.

Do you have any comments on the infrastructure strategy?

«No response»

Other comments

I would ask you to reconsider your plans for house building and road building in West Oxon and to look at more radical alternatives to this endless cycle of expansion and 'development'.
