Do you have any comments on the vision and strategy for the future?

I would like clarity about the values underpinning the decisions being made by WODC. I can see the actions being taken but I am unclear about WODC's strategic beliefs - when "promoting a strong local economy" and "enhancing our environmnet" are mutually incompatible objectives, which one wins out?

2

Do you have any comments on the strategy for Witney?

Witney's shopping area seems to be improving a great deal and I now shop there more than I have in the past.

3

Do you have any comments on the strategy for Carterton?

I read in the Oxford Times (10.02.2011) that soon "... more than 6000 serving (RAF) personnel will be based at the camp (RAF Brize Norton". With the civilians who also work at the camp there will clearly be a huge demand for housing regardless of the housing needs of Oxfordshire "locals". The strategy seems more concerned with meeting the needs of the RAF rather than the local people.

The Council is proposing further growth at Carterton, either to the east or west of the town. Which of these areas do you prefer and why?

I prefer the East option. There are far more positives for this option and the challenges could be easily overcome. The challenges for the West option are more significant - the need to cross the Shill Brook Valley, the effect on existing Conservation areas and the need for major road improvements. The Shilton Brook forms a natural boundary to the west of Carterton - should not be crossed as, if it is, the development will be a small town and not an extension of Carteron.

5

Do you have any comments on the strategy for Chipping Norton?

No

6

Do you have any comments on the meeting specific housing needs strategy?

No

7

Do you have any comments on the use of existing buildings strategy?

No

8

Do you have any comments on the economy and town centres strategy?

To be successful, Carterton needs to attract shops to appeal to middle-class shoppers - it has none at present. The hinterlnad is full of the affluent middle class who most certainly do not shop in Catrterton at present.

9

Do you have any comments on the environment and sustainable development strategy?

Only those already stated

10

Do you have any comments on the transport and movement strategy?

Only those already stated

11

Do you have any comments on the infrastructure strategy?

No

Other comments

Unless WODC are very careful, the very things that make West Oxfordshire so attractive and desirable could be easily lost. Please take time to think about the possible unexpected consequences of the proposals as well as the clearer direct consequences.
