See my comments earlier about the A40 now being the "natural boundary" to Witney in the south. Where possible towns like Witney should not just endlessly sprawl, creeping gradually across the countryside over time. Building in "dead land" between the natural boundary and the existing town should be actively encouraged as a way of reducing to the minimum genuinely green field development . In addition to our original comment, English Heritage considers that the policy should also contain a reference to the potential archaeological interest of the site and require pre-development investigation with the results being made publicly available.

English Heritage makes no comment on the principle of the development of the proposed site at East Witney. However, we would comment that, according to our records, development of the proposed site would not affect any designated heritage assets. However, the Historic Environment Record and Oxford County Archaeologist should be consulted for any records of archaeological interest (English Heritage notes that in the 2008 consultation on Site Allocations Issues and Options, the County Archaeologis

I have been a resident of Cogges for almost 15 years, and although it is sad to see that further housing development will be occurring here, I can see the inevitability of the proposed developments and in fact would very, very warmly welcome the improvements to Shores Green slip roads that go hand-in-hand with the development.  I am particularly pleased at the mention that self-build would be encouraged on this land, as I have had long-term plans to build a very sustainable home of my own.  My p

An opportunity exists in this development to provide public transport interchange/ park and ride linked to Shores Green and a stop on the potential Carterton- Witney- Oxford light rail / tram route - at present being investigated by OCC.
