Although I appreciate the scarcity of suitable land for housing, I should like to urge that greenfield and brownfield developments should be appropriate in style to their rural surroundings. What I should like to see avoided is 3-storey buildings on very small plots such as one sees in Otters Reach in Witney and Shilton Park in Carterton. This gives a forbiddingurban aspect particularly if there are buildings on the opposite side of the road. Secondly, whether or not a house incorporates a gar

However, while continuing to require new building to respect their surroundings in terms of materials and scale it is to be hoped that the opportunity is taken to encourage innovation in architectural expression. Core Policy 4 - High Quality Design: p.31 We agree with the sentiments in sections 4.22-4.24. In particular, we understand that with expected shortages of fossil fuel for transportation, future production of food will have to become more local. To this end, in rural areas, small hamlets of smallholdings would achieve " local green infrastructure and its biodiversity" better than large 'concrete jungles' where wildlife and self-sufficiency cannot flourish.
